Kyambogo University Holds its First Fashion Week

This week, Kyambogo University is having its first edition of fashion week. It is basically a week-long run of showcases of fashion and art from students. Ndagire Phionah, the Chairperson of the organising committee had a chat with Satisfashion UG about the event and what lies ahead.

1. What is this fashion week about?

Kyambogo Fashion Week is a week-long event held to showcase our students’ creativity. This is the first event and we expect to do this annually.

2. What’s the Inspiration behind Kyambogo Fashion Week?
As students of Art and industrial design we knew we had very good art pieces that only remained in the exhibition rooms. We needed a platform where we would share what we have with the world.

3. Are designers who aren’t students at KYU allowed to showcase?

Yes! We welcome every designer and Fashion house to come and take part. We already have houses like TextFad, Uganda Industrial Art Institute, among others already here. Also individual designers were invited too.

4. What should we expect?

Well, all the best in art and design. We will be having DJ Nimrod and Mc Mosh on our last day which is tomorrow. We have competitions in dance, rap and music. We will be having a runway and expo of our best attires. You have no idea what’s in store. Just be there.

5. How did you put together your fabulous squad of models?

When we told students about the event, many of them volunteered to come on board as models, we made a call and over 200 of them came through.  We had to do training sessions and eliminated some until we zeroed down to a dream team.  Our models were trained by Auma, a renowned international model.

6. Who is invited?
