Joshua Cheptegei Secures Gold At Olympics!

Joshua Cheptegei has won the gold medal in the mens 5000 meter finals. His will be the second gold medal after Peruth Chemutai’s in the 3000 meter steeplechase. The 24 year old runner was joined by 2 other Ugandans in the race, Jacob Kiplimo and Oscar Chalimo.

Jacob Kiplimo was in front of the pack early, but Cheptegei took over the front spot midway through the race and didn’t let go of it until a six-man pack pushed ahead of the rest to set-up the final push. Cheptegei sealed the gold with a ferocious charge over the last section, with  Mohammed Ahmed from Canada nipping second.
