Effects of the covid-19 pandemic have been felt by each and every Ugandan business, But, perhaps, businesses that depend on socializing have felt this pinch a little more. Avoiding crowded places and maintaining distance from others meant that some wedding service providers had to just close shop. Afterall, what’s a wedding without people to attend it. What’s a bridal appointment when the whole country is in lockdown?
However, with the advent of ‘scientific weddings’, some wedding service providers have created lasting solutions to these challenges. Because, it’s evident that this pandemic is not going anywhere soon. One such service provider is Spotlight Bride UG, a part of the big Spotlight East Africa family, which has presence in Tanzania and Kenya as well.
What sets Spotlight Bride UG apart is; you don’t just pick a gown of your choice from their racks. You have the liberty of choosing a gown and customizing it into your dream gown, adding all details and embellishments that tickle your fancy.
Their showroon is located on Ntinda Complex in Ntinda, Kampala. Here is how the pandemic has affected them and how they responded.
Challenges
The pandemic has affected our business to the extent that our showroom is still temporarily closed, since all arcades are still on lockdown. However, this has also brought us closer to our brides in many ways, and allowed us to reinvent our business model. We recently launched an online consultation and ordering platform, across all our stores in East Africa.
Response
With the introduction of our Virtual Consultation, our brides are able to fully undergo bridal consultations via telephone, and other applications from the comfort of their own homes. We also focused more on ‘getting to know’ our brides by running various interactive content on our social media, including support networks for the distressed brides who had to postpone their weddings, some of these brides were even gracious enough to allow us to make their stories public, which in turn created a support network, for other brides.
Postponements
Yes, majority of our brides did postpone their weddings, but thankfully our UG brides fore-planned, thus, all ordered items arrived on time, and this helped them checklist one of their most important items off their list.
Should brides postpone or have scientific functions?
“Love can never be postponed” – We believe that weddings are a celebration and commemoration of love with family and friends, thus a postponement of a wedding is understandable. However, for those who were planning small and intimate weddings can move forward with scientific functions.
Spotlight Bride UG is also giving away a commission of $50 on any bride you refer to them and they commit.
