Meet Mfasha Ivy K, a makeup artist getting into the scene with her brand, IK House of Beauty. What once started as a hobby slowly morphed into a budding career path. Let’s take a look into her journey, and how she decided to turn Friday Night out with the girls into some coin.
When did you realize your love for makeup?
I’ve always loved to makeup, and I used to help my friends do their makeup for events or outings even though I wasn’t that good at that time, so I decided to get education that took me 6 months to learn what I wanted to be a professional makeup artist. After my studies, I was accredited and prepared to pursue my passion.
Did you immediately start your Beauty House after this?
It’s a long story, well, I started as manager at a Saloon in Munyonyo, where I often practiced my makeup skills, got a few of my clients but one day everything came to an end when the Saloon was sold off and I was left unemployed and left only with the skill. As they say when life brings you lemons, make lemonade, I decided to do mobile makeup services that required me to go to meet my clients and do their make-up.
That must have been tough…
Being a single mother, life wasn’t easy for me to save my children’s school fees, business and family well-being; I had to balance my time and actions wisely.
I would work on clients late night and with various insecurities, it become a challenge. I still had to work to make ends meet and with that being the case, some clients told me to get a spot so that they would find me for my services instead of moving or traveling to work on them late in the night. I always had it in mind to find a location and I was afraid I’d end up losing clients.
Did you find one?
I always had it in mind to find a location because I was afraid I’d end up losing clients. I decided to take the chance and spend all my savings in finding a spot for my brand (IK House of Beauty & Makeup Studio) that also took a toll on me, but I finally got a place at Ttowa Mall. There, we sell original and authentic beauty products, while a makeup studio provides affordable makeup services for all functions such as weddings, photoshoots and more. We also offer makeup lessons.
Where do you want to see your brand in years to come ?
I also want to grow my brand to be better and bigger in terms of its professional services as well as to work and collaborate with brands to improve my imagination and showcase my creativeness. I’d also like to start a makeup school for young people who have a passion in this craft.
You can find Mfasha at @ik_makeup_studio on Instagram or their location at Ttowa Mall, Shop C-316 or contact 0783130400 for more information.
