How Guests at the Ikon Awards Interpreted The Theme

The Ikon awards black carpet was graced with stars from the film industry and everyone came ready to steal the show. The invites emphasized the theme which was “African Glam Affair” and the guests interpreted that differently. From colourful prints to the “black yellow red” colour palette of Ugandan flag, to fashion inspired by other African countries, the assignment was understood! Let’s take a look

Kikooyi

One would have thought that the theme was unofficially “Kikooyi”, because left and right gusts wore the heck out of the striped fabric! For most, it was incorporated with another solid colour, between either black or red.

Kitengi print

Few went the route of Kitenge print simply because it is something we have seen overdone time and time again. i will have to give a special shoutout to Fix by Oringa who apparently dressed over 10 ladies that night, including Racheal K and Icy Sonie. Her interpretation of kitenge has always skewed towards unexpected, and is seamlessly adapted for our current era.

The Men

It was delightful that the gents left the black suits at home! Kitenge, mandarin collars, bright colours and just kingly vibes in general.

Brown and Proud

Cowrie shells, bark cloth and more was featured on the carpet as well, it was beautiful to see!

… And then there are the Diamonds

One of these beautiful ladies told me her inspiration was the diamonds that are mined in Africa, and while that sounds great, I still think that was a witty copout of adhering to the theme. They still looked stunning!
