How Fatumah Asha Set The Tone For Uganda International Fashion Week

She single handedly convinced us to wear a 'naked dress'!

Albeit violated by many, last evening’s finale of Uganda Fashion Week had a very strict dress code; everyone had to come wearing black. Renowned dressmaker, Fatumah Asha, who was making her debut at a fashion week in Kampala followed this dress code to the tee even with her collection.

Her models strutted down the runway in what looked like a gothic dream, floating by in black gowns accessorized with black pearls. The collection was full of soft feminine fabrics like chiffon, organza and faux fur, while the intricate placement of pearls softened things even more.

The reaction from the audience was evidently positive, with some loud WOW’s and excited murmurs especially when the neat, netted look came floating down the runway. One of my favorite looks is the dress with a sharp sweetheart neckline and soft bell sleeves.

Asha says her collection was inspired by the 19th century style, especially the drama that came with the clothes back then.

“I love black, so I thought it best to gravitate towards the colour for this collection,” she shared.

Do you love these looks? Let’s hear what you think in the comments below.
