What’s your favourite fashion label?
I love all the local designers here in Uganda, I haven’t worn many of them but still appreciate the creative effort they put in their work. However, Fatumah Asha stands out. Her clothes are so feminine and glamorous. Internationally, I would say Versace.

If you were a superhero, what superpowers would you have?
If I was a superhero, I would be Thunder man. A lot of people do bad things, but they never get punished. I would use my powers to look out for such people and punish them.

Being an Ethiopian model in Kampala, what is the biggest lesson you’ve learned working in a foreign land?
It’s very important to work under an agency. Back home, I was a freelance model which was quite tough. Even when I got here, it wasn’t easy to book shows before I got an agency that handles my bookings.

I have a very big appetite when it comes to food. Amazingly, I weigh 50kgs just as my little nephew in primary five. I wonder where all the food goes.
I’ve learned how to have tough skin. The models are very different, very good and very many. The industry is tough and the rejection is real. You learn to accept the fact that you are different and it is okay, and that some models are going to be better.
I don’t let rejection break me, because that’s just how life is.
What are some of the tricks and lessons you’ve picked from modelling that make you a better person away from it?
The trick is, Be nice, Be nice, Be nice. You never know who is watching. Character is very important because in this industry, we get to meet different people. With the models, every one may come off with different energy and vibes because we are all fighting for a spot. But when you are nice, it’s a plus. Saying hello to everyone that you are working with, saying thank you and smiling at people is very important.
Even when you don’t want to, swallow your ego and fake it. Eventually, it becomes a part of you. The universe has a special liking for nice people.

I’m friendly and humble. I always choose to be different and unique, challenging my imaginations. I’m also an actor.
If you had to choose between modelling and acting, what would you go with?
I would choose modelling without much thought. Then, I wouldn’t have to worry about reading scripts to express myself. In modelling, expressions are based on self-creativeness and talent. It always reminds me to be who I am, rather than trying to be somebody else.
