For taking on the tough job of putting African fashion on the global map through the annual Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards which has turned into some sort of definitive index of the people shaping the industry, Satisfashion UG readers have named Brian Ahumuza ‘Person of the year for 2017’
Founder of the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards, a growing platform celebrating and honoring excellence in Africa’s fashion industry, Ahumuza is undoubtedly a huge part of the driving force behind the future of the industry. Many of us might only be familiar with the glitz and glamour of the event, but don’t fall for that. This year’s event, for example, was themed ‘Fashion Takeover’, an awareness drive of what fashion can bring to the table in terms of employment opportunities and impact on the economy. One of their efforts was a partnership with SEED Show where young designers were equipped with expert tips on how to thrive as business people.
Ahumuza’s efforts haven’t gone without notice, this year he received the Young Achievers’ award for ‘Best in Creative Arts – fashion’.
“We are celebrating people like me who are looking at fashion not only from a creative point of view but also as a business. Let no one tell you it is impossible, if they do, tell them, “If Brian did, I too can!”, he shared on his social media shortly after receiving the Young Achievers Award.
“Leaving a legacy was and still is my aim, “he told the Independent magazine in March. Obviously, he’s not about to say he’s there yet.
Join us in celebration of this gem that is Brian Ahumuza with the title of ‘Satisfashion UG’s Person of the year for 2017’.
