Every man’s guide to wearing floral print

By  |

Floral print is one of the hottest trends for men now. The trend is certainly making its mark with its loud graphic detail and pop of colour. Embracing these flowers will not make you less of a man and wearing them right will set you apart.

It’s actually very tricky to pull this trend off. The challenge is in putting your pieces together in a way that won’t let you come off as clueless and careless. Let’s share some few pointers.

Floral prints come in pretty much everything now. From pants, shirts, ties to socks and blazers.

Less is more

There’s no need to go all out all filled with flower petals. All you need is a little sprinkle somewhere. You could choose a floral print bow tie and keep everything else simple and polished. Add just one tone of the print to your rather monotonous look and see the magic.

Just one item in your wardrobe is enough to change everything around. This is the easiest most go to way of wearing this print without putting your manliness in suspect.

Serious business

You have an event in the evening with ‘very serious’ people – probably potential clients. here is what you do. Use your print as a shadow of whatever you’ll be matching it with. If it’s a floral blue shirt, wear it with a purple or black blazer. The idea is to use the print as a texture and the dark colour adds depth and drama to the look. For a printed blazer, wear it with a shirt that’s in the same colour palette as the blazer or white. If you want to add a tie, make it solid in a colour such as  black. Keep the rest of the look simple clean and polished.

Go easy

This is too much. Go easy on these flowers.

While everyone else is showering themselves with flower petals, just go easy all the way. Remember that the print is busy enough. Always have just one piece on that is in the print. Try to tone it down with a blazer or cardigan in a neutral colour.

Just like I’ve noted above, you can do your prints in anything. It doesn’t need to be a shirt. Here are the alternatives.

1. Caps – These are great for those who are afraid of putting flowers on their bodies.

2. Shorts – This is the perfect alternative for the boring cargo shorts you always wear to the beach.

3. Bucket hats – Did Eddy Kenzo beat up a journalist wearing one? Watch your temper when wearing a bucket hat in floral print.

4. Casual shirts – Keep the shirt as fitting as you can or else you’ll look clueless.

Now that you know how to rock this flower filled trend, go breathe some life into your wardrobe. Just one item is enough to go into rotation with what you already own.
