Esther Nagawa Nakitende, a Ugandan blogger and model, is one of the black women using Instagram to challenge mainstream beauty standards, and inspiring women to celebrate their natural beauty. In an industry that’s obsessed with perfection, it’s easy to follow the pack and alter your appearance. But Nagawa is not about that. The plus-size star isn’t afraid of making daring and unconventional style choices. She also encourages women to work out, not to alter their appearance, but to keep fit.

Born in a family of five children in Mukono, Uganda, she moved to Toronto, Canada in 2006 to pursue other opportunities. She has carved a career for herself as a model and amassed a following of almost 300,000 followers on just Instagram, who look up to her for style and beauty inspiration. This influence has attracted a number of renowned fashion brands that work with her as an influencer and model.

Nagawa is a huge champion of body positivity. She uses every possible opportunity to preach her message of acceptance and confidence.
