Destined by Faith: The Wedding of Suuna & Eunice

Their journey was not just by chance but rather meant to be
The Wedding of Suuna & Eunice

Couple: Suuna Muganga, CEO of ISLAND BITES (a Kampala-based Caribbean catering and delivery service), & Eunice Namulondo, former Business Development Executive for Hyundai and Reed (a UK recruitment company).

Event Date: January 18th, 2025
Location: Namirembe Cathedral & Kalanoga Resort

How They Met
We are both British, born and raised in the UK but originally from Uganda. Suuna moved to Uganda in 2019. We met in April 2023 when I came to Uganda for the Easter holidays with my family. Before that, I had added Suuna on Snapchat—not his personal one, but his business handle, Island Bites. I decided that when I got to Uganda, I’d place a food order, just in case I got bored of matoke! When I added him, we started chatting, though not romantically. We would occasionally pop up on each other’s posts, reacting to funny memes. At one point, I told him I was coming to Uganda, and we made a provisional plan to meet up.

The Wedding of Suuna & Eunice

We finally met on April 12, 2023, at Platia in Kololo. It wasn’t meant to be a date, but it turned into one as we talked for five hours straight. We ordered drinks and a pizza, which we barely touched because we were so engrossed in conversation. I was scheduled to leave Uganda for the UK on April 16th—meaning we had only four days to spend time together. We met again on April 14th, 15th, and 16th before I left for the airport. On April 14th, a mutual acquaintance invited me out, and I asked Suuna to be my plus one. That’s when we discovered we both knew this mutual friend from the UK! We had a great time, but I was exhausted and left early. Suuna got me a takeaway of chicken lollipops and booked my Uber home.

On April 15th, we met for a late lunch at The Patio in Ntinda (now called La Cueva). Once again, we were so lost in conversation that we only ordered starters. On April 16th, my last day, I decided to do some beauty maintenance before flying back—hair and nails at The World Salon in Kansanga. By 11 AM, I was done and texted Suuna, who suggested we meet at The Drop in Muyenga. We had lunch and talked for hours before I had to rush home at 5 PM to pack for my 11 PM flight back to London. While packing, I told my mum that I thought I had met someone special. When I described Suuna, she actually knew who he was—they had both attended the same Bible study group in London years prior!

That meeting in Muyenga was our last in-person encounter until September 2023. We had no idea we were about to embark on a long-distance relationship. After I returned to London, we FaceTimed every single day, and after three months, I realized I had fallen in love. He had become my best friend and favorite person. I returned to Uganda in September 2023 for three weeks, and on October 6th, a day before my birthday, he officially asked me to be his girlfriend.

The Proposal
The proposal was magical! Suuna traveled to London for four months in June 2024, and on July 12th, he proposed at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel in Kensington. He had told me a week prior that I would be meeting his sisters for dinner. When I arrived at the venue, expecting to see Jenny and Birungi, I was greeted with a full proposal setup and a photographer! He said some heartfelt words—though I barely remember them because I was overwhelmed with emotions—then got down on one knee. Of course, I said yes!

Introduction
Our introduction ceremony took place in Kiteezi, Kasangati. I planned my kwanjula with the help of my cousin Trisha, and together, we sourced most of my service providers. I enjoyed the planning process, and since I was still in London, we had plenty of time to handle all the details. I was also my own treasurer. I actually prefer kwanjulas to weddings—they are more fun and entertaining because they feel less formal!”

The Wedding of Suuna & Eunice

I had the best service providers for the kwanjula. Palette Events handled the décor, Fotogenix provided the tents, and Exceed Catering delivered amazing food. Karizma Photography UG captured the moments, while DJ Moustey kept the music flowing.

Bakitone Cultural Group performed the traditional dances, and Dr. Juice provided refreshments. TikTok’s Petrol Daadi was our katumwa, and Twaha Mukisa was our mwogezi.

Wow Hospitality provided exceptional ushers, and our beautiful cake was crafted by Rumi Cakes. Ankaa Gomasi designed stunning outfits for me and my bridesmaids. Sean Mbajja and Peter Russell, the ultimate dynamic duo, made me feel absolutely beautiful with their hair and makeup artistry!

The Wedding
Wedding planning was stressful, but it never affected my relationship with Suuna—we were always on the same page. However, our planner was unreliable, so we let her go just days before the kwanjula. Though not everything went as planned, we remained joyful throughout the day, and for that, we thank Jesus!

My Gown
I wanted something classic and timeless. I’m not a fan of bling, so I opted for a plain satin gown with a sweetheart neckline and a waterfall ruffled skirt by Mori Lee. It also featured detachable off-the-shoulder sleeves. The moment I saw it in a boutique in Eltham, Southeast London, I knew it was the one!

Wedding Theme
Our theme was black, white, silver, grey, and diamante—classic and elegant! I’m not into bright colors, and my husband appreciated that the theme wasn’t too “girly.”

Wedding Service Providers
We carefully chose our service providers based on their reputations. Sean Mbajja styled my hair, while Peter Russell did my makeup. Hers UG designed the bridesmaid dresses, and Oga UG tailored the suits for my husband and best man. My stunning changing dress was by NoeBimm, a UK-based Nigerian designer. S Pride Decor created our gorgeous bouquets. Kampala Kings Band and DJ Kas Baby provided incredible entertainment. Malaika Tenshi was our phenomenal MC—everyone raved about her energy and charisma! Kalanoga Resort served a delectable buffet, and we wrapped up the night with a breathtaking display by Tomil Fireworks!
