Designer to know: Nicholas Katamba of Just Kat Wear 

Nicholas Katamba is a Ugandan designer who deserves more than 15 seconds of your recognition.

After graduating with a diploma in fashion and design, Katamba set up his fashion label, Just Kat Wear in 2014. “Kat” stands for his name Katamba which means to not simply blend in but stand out.

His Afro-modern designs featuring fabulous print designs have been showcased on a number of runways such as The Hot Pink Charity Fashion Show in 2017 and 2018, The Seed Fashion Show at the Bayimba Music Festival of Arts.

The Just Kat Wear woman is one who likes to embrace her curves, show just enough skin. Nicholas relies on cutouts to achieve this. His menswear line on the other hand is characterized by dramatic waist coats, one sided jackets and shirts that fit every occasion and still depict a man with a good sense of style.

This designer leans towards African print because of the rich colours and patterns that easily blend with accessories such as bags, shoes and jewellery. As long as it’s comfortable and protective, it’s good to go.
