David Proposed to Deborah With Cake!

"Where's the ring?" she asked. I told her that I had no ring but I had bought her cake because I know she is a cake lover.

David first clapped eyes on Deborah at his sister’s wedding in 2013. They would meet again three years later as she was joining university, become friends and get married three years after.

Who: David Kalema, a businessman dealing in fashion at Nabukeera Plaza and Deborah Nassali Kalema, a lab scientist at Makerere University Department of Pharmacology in Mulago.

When: They held their introduction ceremony on 22/02/2020

Where: Event was held at Deborah’ family home in Busunju

Guests: 600 guests (friends and family) attended the event.

How they met

I first saw her at my sister’s wedding in 2013. Ofcourse she didn’t pick interest in, although I liked her right away. Then in 2016 we met again at Makerere University as she was applying for her degree. We became good friends. We started during her second semester of her first year.

Engagement

There was no engagement, let me say that because immediately after her final exams Debbie travelled to Dubai for two weeks. It was the first time since we started dating that I was away from her for a long time and we communicated less. I really missed her. She has always been my full time day maker.

The day I picked her from the airport I told her “I want to marry you.” Her answer was “Where’s the ring?” I didn’t have it😂I told her I have no ring but bought you cake because I know she is a cake lover. She said “okay, put the cake on my finger.” We both  laughed about it. She actually never took me seriously at first until I asked her to set a date  the for the previsit.

Planning the Kwanjula

Our introduction was held on 22/02/2020.
We involved our friends and family in the planning process, which made everything easym.  They shared ideas and set up meetings. We actually never had serious challenges putting the kwanjula together because from the beginning we knew we were actually green when it comes to these traditional events. So we involved our elders more.
