The team behind ’40 Models 40 Days’ worked on another project titled ‘Curves for days’ highlighting the diversity of model body shapes in Uganda plus the designers making clothes for them . Emmanuel Banji Bagwana, the photographer behind the project explains his inspiration for the project and also the creative process behind it.

The inspiration
“The inspiration was last season’s international fashion shows where I noticed that designers were starting to embrace more curvy models. I realized that back home we hadn’t shown the same progress in the industry especially the high fashion side of it. That’s why I also opted to work with new design talent who all made pieces specifically for the shoot.”

Model selection
“As far as selecting the models is concerned, I asked people in the industry for recommendations and also looked around on social media. As for the models not being overly curvy, I was open to all sizes over 12 which in the fashion industry qualifies to one being categorized as a curvy or plus size. I had contacted a couple of models as well but some didn’t communicate in time.
As much as the models were expected to be curvy they also had to fit industry standards like height, good skin, a striking face and the like so it would give the shoot a more authentic feel as opposed to just some form of tokenism.”
