Centenary Bank Donates shs5m to Fund Construction of Africa’s largest Grotto for Mother Mary

Centenary Bank, Uganda’s largest commercial microfinance bank contributed shs5 million to Our Lady Help of the Sick, Mulago Parish towards the construction of Africa’s largest Grotto for Mother Mary and a Healing Centre worth shs150m. A grotto is a holy place that houses the effigy of Mary the mother of Jesus Christ.

The funds were handed over by Mr Fabian Kasi, Centenary Bank’s Managing Director to His Eminence Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala at the end of the first Mulago Catholic Parish Marathon held on Saturday May 02, 2015.

Mr Kasi noted that the contribution was made as part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme through which it reaches out to different communities

“It’s our hope that our contribution will provide a good foundation for more funds to be raised to complete this establishment in the Parish. It’s our dream to see that the completed Grotto for Mother Mary becomes a reminder to believers about the good deeds of Mother Mary. I do believe that it will also  go a long way in deepening the faith of believers in the Catholic Church.”

Participating in marathons, he added, is good for all believers because it keeps them physically fit and healthy.

In his capacity as the chief runner, His Eminence Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala called upon all Christians to work together to develop one another and develop the economy in the long run. He also appreciated the efforts of the organisers and sponsors of the marathon for committing valuable resources to the run aimed at raising more funds for the completion of the establishment.
