Barbie in new campaign against child mortality

By  |

Barbie Kyagulanyi and husband Bobi Wine joined a youth project called Everyone is me and they visited Nakaseke Hospital yesterday. The aim of the visit was to check out the maternal and children’s wards at the hospital in pursuit to foster better health services for children and women in Uganda.

According to the project coordinator Patrick Mwesigwa, Barbie is the new ambassador of the project. Her role is to champion for all women in Uganda to seek proper antenatal care during pregnancy to avoid death during child birth and mortality. The project is also part of Save the Children.

She posted this on her facebook timeline just after her visit in Nakaseke.

As we were touring Nakaseke hospital doing ambassador work for “Save the Children” /”Everyone is me campaign” today, Me and Bobi Kyagulanyi talked to young mothers and their stories of their 9 months journey reminded me of my own.

My sister Bre Karuhanga was born at home because it was a Sunday and the only bus that could take mum to hospital was on a weekend holiday. We lost twin brothers because my mum couldn’t access regular antenatal care. That was some years back and Alas!, MANY children and 16 mothers STILL DIE EVERYDAY in Uganda TODAY due to similar reasons.(PREVENTABLE REASONS). Is our health sector not growing at all? We need to stop these deaths. Many babies have been deprived of their future. It’s my calling to say that we need change! I signed a promise today and am LOUDLY, BOLDLY campaigning for more nurses in hospitals, enough requirements in the maternity wards,Ambulances in villages! We women won’t die like Dogs! Am blowing the trumpet to stake holders,Uganda government,Potential donors,Husbands to pregnant mothers and Responsible bodies,we need to see a decline in these deaths! Let’s join hands: it’s me it’s you.. Everyone is me!
