Anniesa Hasibuan Becomes First Designer to Present NYFW Collection with Hijabs
Considering the high volume of designers that simultaneously show during New York Fashion Week, it’s all too easy to miss a few. One designer that definitely deserves attention, however, is Anniesa Hasibuan. The Muslim designer is not only the first Indonesian to show at one of the official NYFW venues, Moynihan Station, but is also the first to present a collection that has every look outfitted with hijabs.
In a collection inspired by her hometown, Jakarta, hijabs were worn with trousers, suits, kimonos, tunics, and gowns all in colourful silks and patterns.
“I want to bring the Indonesian name to the fashion world, and use my clothes to introduce people to the different and diverse parts of Indonesia,” Hasibuan told The Jakarta Post.
48 looks went down the runway and at the end, Hasibuan was given a standing ovation–a rare sight at fashion week. Not bad for a one-year-old brand.
Another win for the modest fashion movement.
