An African City is an African web series that debuted last month. It has been described as the African Sex and the City something that is not far from the truth. It is a beautiful story of five highly educated and well traveled African women settling in Africa after living abroad for so many years.
The five friends Ngozi, Zainab,Nana Yaa, Sade and Makena are faced with issues that no body has tackled in film. In contrast to this, the series tackles them with utmost humour. The issues include love, politics, relationships and the socio- economic trends in Africa as seen through the eyes of a 21st century woman.
We can all relate with these five young ladies. Their aspirations, dreams, influences and take on life is everything we are all about. It’s no doubt that reviews from all over Africa and beyond have been very positive. It sure is already a hit and fortunately enough it is still online.
Putting all that aside, the fashion had me glued just like I did for Single Ladies. The cast mesmerized me with their extensive collection of modern African frocks. A celebration of what African fashion can offer was well deserving for such a series.
Some of the the things that intrigued me the most include the following. Maame Yaa Boafa (Naa Yaa)’s undeniable resemblance with Ugandan supermodel Kiara Kabukuru. Sade reminds me of Keisha in Single Ladies while Ngozi is just as disturbingly hilarious as she’s brainy. Not forgetting the first episode which had Maurice Kirya‘s song as the soundtrack!
We shall be reviewing each episode for all the fashion and beauty trends.
Here is episode 3 by far my favorite of the 5 released episodes. You can watch all the other episodes here www.anafricancity.tv
