Alpher and Harounah Planned Their Nikkah & Traditional Wedding in a Month!

By  |

Alpher Kashaka a veil and makeup artist, and Harounah a business man, met on Luwum Street in 2017. She had just lost her handbag to a petty thief, seated by the  roadside and in tears, when  Harounah approached her to ask what’s wrong. All she needed was help to call her mum, which he offered, and 2000 Ugx for her transportation back home. He didn’t have the 2000 ugx, so he gave her 20000shs which she promised to refund.

Two days later, they met at Café javas, she refunded his money and they’ve been friends since then.

The engagement

He didn’t actually talk to me about itfirst. He instead talked to my mum since he already had her contact and later jokingly asked me “can you actually get married?” . Of course I said yes and then he asked and still the answer was an obvious yes.

(Couldn’t you joke with a No just to see his reaction?)

We tied the knot from my father’s compound where we also held the Nikkah reception. We wanted to save money instead of hiring expensive venues. We planned for about a month. We had about 200 guests at the event.

The Décor

My introduction decor theme colours were lemon green, gold and a touch of white because they are unique colours and my outfits fitted into the theme colours perfectly without clashing. I didn’t like the idea of matching outfits with the décor because I didn’t want to end up getting lost in the décor.

My Nikkah reception theme colours were gold, silver and white for I wanted a replica of the Arabian Nikkahs. They use white and silver a lot and are always dressed in so much gold

We had to discuss with Niche so we could have a single budget for both functions inclusive of lighting.

Which part did you want to WOW the guests?

My Introduction Gazebo and the Nikkah tent had to be a triple wow!

Any challenges face while planning

I don’t even know where to begin, they were a lot!

Did you attend any wedding shows prior or have a wedding planner?

Neither

The fashion

I wanted something different but extra for my gown and Disney bridals Mbarara had it. The groom and his men just wanted an Arabian theme for their outfits.

The Cake

The cake was baked by Sarah of Cake library. It was red velvet and mint oran`ge.

What’s the one thing you would change about the wedding if you were to do it all over again?

Nothing. It was all perfect

How did you tame your wedding day nerves?

My mum, Jaria my sister and my matron Shamim did everything to make me relax.

One moment that will last with you forever

My mum praying for me before the function. The memory will stay with me forever.

The problem with standing in the middle of the room is that you become part of the narrative and the power to tell the story is stripped off you. I pour it out in writing, shaping the river into words.
