Abbas Kaijuka Brings Kikoyi Like We’ve Never Seen Before At Uganda International Fashion Week

Judith Heard closed the show with head to toe trash!

Abbas Kaijuka, creative director of Kai’s Divo Collection last night presented a collection that had us scampering to get some Kikoyi fabric ASAP. The collection was full of hints of the fabric, paired on a black base. The first look was a plain black layered two-piece and as the collection progressed, got more and more eccentric.

Notable looks included gomesi inspired tops and a kikoyi cummerbund. Judith Heard closed the collection with what can be described as a collage of fabric, shredded all around the skirt of the dress, lace on the top half and a larger than life headpiece.

We caught up with Abbas after the show and his inspiration for the collection was paying homage to culture, so bringing back the kikoyi and the gomesi silhouette and making it accessible was key. His interpretation of Kikoyi wasn’t just on the runway; he had dressed Joram Muzira with hints of kikoyi around the belt and shoulder.

Over to you, what looks did you enjoy from Abbas’ collection? Leave a comment below.
