Although opening up about it is still considered a taboo in our community, mental illness is on a rise globally. According to a health report shared in parliament last year, Uganda ranks among the top six countries with the highest cases of mental illness in Africa, and has a 33 per cent overall global ranking.
Sharing personal experiences just like Lagum did is one of the many ways to help break the stigma around it, and also comfort those are dealing with issues.
