Catherine and Sons’ SS2020 Collection Brought A Hairy Situation To The Runway

This collection, whew, I need to sip some water before we get into it. It was, for lack of a better word, hairy. The biggest prop/centrepiece were these “crowns of hair” on every model. The clothing almost took a backseat because everyone was wondering, what about that hair? We’ll get to that in a moment.

Catherine and Sons took us on a journey, one whose history I’d love to know more about. The first (well, second) thing that caught my eye was the intentionally misaligned waistlines. They were neither empire waists or mid-length, they just… weren’t, which was an interesting aspect. They either were patched in between the waist or just went slanting off into a world of their own. The whole collection reflected that, belonging in more of a surrealist world than the one we currently live in.

The colour choices of ’50 shades of beige’ reflected that kind of other worldly aspect, and even things like the collars or sleeves weren’t trying to be symmetrical.
The collection wasn’t trying to be a fan favourite, it was trying to say something, and I wish I could figure out what it is!

When we caught up with Edward Sempa, the designer behind this interesting collection, he only made a comment on why the hair choice, which in few words, It was a reflection of the culture of buying hair, buying body parts, basically”
