Arapapa’s CEO Santa Anzo was one of the speakers at the Phaneroo Annual Women’s Conference which happened at Kololo Independance Grounds on Saturday 5th July 2019. During her session, she advised women to “dress according to their value” and to be mindful of how they are perceived by the influential people they might meet as they go about their day.
Dressed in a cascading floor length black dress, she spoke of how she came up in the fashion industry, starting as a model and working her way up. She said the places she wanted to go she had to dress for, and that the women in attendance needed to do. She spoke of taking fashion lessons from the women she respected and looked up to such as Oprah Winfrey and Miriam Makeba while encouraging the ladies to find powerful role models to look up to.
She emphasized aspects like good coloring, branding, dressing your age as well as fit, adding that there are some women who in the name of fashion are “sausaging themselves” and don’t look appealing. Still on the issue of fit, she spoke of spilling out, stating that any woman who was spilling out of her outfit did not leave a good impression on those around her. “If you’re fidgeting, that potential employer or investor will most definitely see it”
Do you agree with her take on style for young women?
