7 Celebrity Fashion Looks That Went Viral in 2019

Fashion has been a huge debate starter in 2019!

Fashion has been a huge debate starter in 2019. Celebrities now use their Instagram feeds and the red carpet to communicate, invent or re-invent themselves, and basically make and break news. This year, we had a number of fashion looks that left the internet divided.

  • Anita Beryl as ‘Best Woman’ at Pastor Edwin Musiime’s wedding

One of the most memorable celebrity weddings of 2019 is that of Pastor Edwin Musiime who wed Christabel Nansubuga in August. What went viral though, was how the celebrated TV personality ditched the idea of having a Best man, and instead opted to have a ‘Best Woman’. Renowned couturier Anita Beryl, who was the lucky ‘Best woman’ first appeared in the pre-wedding photos of the couple clad in a three-piece suit, complete with a bow tie just like Musiime.

The most viral photo of the two best friends was from the couple’s traditional wedding, where the designer and the pastor posed in matching agbada. The internet was divided, and hasn’t made peace with this till this day.

  • Bad Black’s Birthday gown

When news broke that socialite Bad Black was celebrating her 30th birthday with a swanky birthday bash, no one anticipated the fashion statement she was planning to make. First, the highly exclusive event had a terribly strict dress code: Men had to wear black head to toe, while ladies were expected to show up in glitter. Everyone that violated the dress code was escorted out.

Bad Black, the belle of the evening, smartly violated her own dress code, or rather married what the men and women had to wear together. The Snapchat queen opted for a custom black Beryl Qouture gown which accentuated her baby bump. The shimmery piece featured a giant train, which accommodated its own seat. It is reported that she spent over 10 million Shillings on the gown. The internet hasn’t recovered from this shocker.

  • Zari in Gert-Johan Coetzee at the finale of Miss Uganda 2019

Zari in a ruby red gown custom created for her by South African couturier Gert-Johan Coetezee, descended from her suite at Sheraton Kampala Hotel for the finale of Miss Uganda 2019 pumped up and excited to officiate the announcing of yet another Ugandan beauty queen.

Hours later, she stomped back into her suite, livid as never, after a very nasty tiff she and Anita Fabiola had had on stage minutes before the winner was announced. The internet was broken as photos of her were used to create countless memes.

  • Rema’s Kukyaala dresses

When the internet got wind of news that Rema was really moving on from Eddy Kenzo, it didn’t sink in until the singer took to Instagram to live post her own ‘Kukyaala’ event. The first photo of her clad in an embellished maroon busuuti has since attracted over 28000 likes on Instagram alone. That wasn’t all, she changed into two more outfits, leaving the internet in stiches. As if that wasn’t buzzy enough, days later, the star hosted her close friends to a swanky intro shower, sparking off a wedding trend no one even asked for.

  • Rema’s LED light gown

Never one to shy away from viral fashion moments, Rema chose to make a grand statement at her traditional wedding event. Aside from changing into countless outfits, including one inspired by the Nigerian ‘Buba and Gele’, which was considered offensive by a section of the internet because ‘It wasn’t appropriate at a local Buganda event’, she wore a ‘disco-light’ dress.

The dress, which was custom created for her by Abbas Kaijuka of Kai’s Divo Collection, complete with LED lights in different colours, had tongues wagging, with a section praising her for the bold fashion statement whilst others were furious that she had taken things a notch higher.

  • Lydia Jazmine channels Billy Porter at ASFAs

Lydia Jazmine arrived at the 2019 Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards looking as extra as never. The singer was clad in giant yellow skirt hand painted for hours by designer Dyna Vence. The Mavo Kampala styled look went head to feature a caged pigeon and shirtless hunky men who helped her carry the extra-long skirt into the venue. Perhaps the most bizarre part of the look was the bodice which was bra pads held together to conceal her modesty.

The internet had a field day on this one.

  • Bettinah Tianah’s ASFAS gown

Instagram star Bettinah Tianah opted to wear a frothy Beryl Qouture gown to the glitzy Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards, something that was totally out of her comfort zone. Either she wasn’t photographed well, or her signature pose didn’t flatter the look, photos of her in the gown received mixed reactions on the internet. Horrified at the responses, the TV star chimed in by asking the internet not to share the photos, obviously making things worse.
