When it comes to Ugandan fashion, there are some names everyone expects to hear. Today, we talk about those that you should know, whether you love haute couture or looking for ready to wear. If you don’t follow them on Instagram, let’s just say you’re the one missing out.

1. Mshona

Mshona is a brand by Alice Atuhaire which celebrates femininity and beautiful silhouettes. She is inspired by “the rich Ugandan culture and modern fabrics.” Mshona is the Swahili word for ‘tailor’ so you can see they have the art of fabric manipulation at heart.

2. Aliad Zoe

When it comes to wearable experiments, Aliad Zoe is one brand to watch. From big dramatic gowns to unorthodox silhouettes, the brand, a brainchild of Aliad Aryaija, is willing to explore all possibilities. A protege of the widely celebrated Fatumah Asha, Aliad Zoe is one brand you need to add to your radar.

3. Miss Shee

After the success of her retail store Her Fashion Box, Rashidah saw it fit to create her own line of clothing catering to the needs for her eclectic clientele; their lifestyle and fashion sense. During the 2020 lockdown, Miss Shee was born, its name borrowed from Rashidah’s moniker. With a talented team of seamstresses and her undeniable creative genius, the brand is one to rely on for easy breezy one and two-piece looks that cater to all shapes and sizes. Last weekend, the brand celebrated its first anniversary with a cute Sip and Shop event.

4. Yasmin K

Structured silhouettes and striking prints. Those are two ways I could describe this brand. Started by Yasmin, another protege of Fatumah Asha, this brand knows what they are doing and who they are serving… Have yet to find a look from them which is unflattering!

5. Seamline Atelier

Started by four friends while in fashion school in Record Fashion School, Seamline is a brand that focuses on haute couture with a message. They formulate wearable art after going through abstract ideas and bring them to life. Edward MuyiziMukisa Emmanuel WilliamsTamale Eria and Lukakamwa Ruqmhan make up the ensemble team that is behind Seamline Atelier.

6. Lukwanzi

When it comes to finding modest fashion, Lukwanzi is front and centre. Focusing on ready to wear fashion with a focus on kaftans and abayas, this brand will have you covered (literally).
