5 Guaranteed Ways to Survive the January “Drought”
As the calendar turns its page to January, many of us find ourselves navigating the financial aftermath of holiday festivities, often dubbed the ‘January Drought.’ The post-holiday season can be financially challenging, with tightened budgets and a sense of restraint. However, fear not, as we’ve curated a guide featuring five guaranteed ways to not only survive but thrive during this financial lull. From savvy budgeting tips to creative ways to make the most of what you have, let’s embark on a journey to navigate the January ‘Drought’ with confidence and resilience.
1. Stay Home
Yes, I know, it is karaoke night or whatever, but how about catching up on that series you really wanted to follow, or one that you didn’t know you needed to catch? Catch up on Euphoria, the latest season of You, or The Witcher. You can’t spend anything if you’re not buying anything.
2. Pack Lunch
I know, it might sound lame, but the coins you spend on lunch everyday add up. If your pocket is on crutches, consider packing your lunch in a portable container and take it with you to your workplace. There are so many things that are easy to pack; sandwiches, oats, a salad or noodles. Better yet, you could fast, and intentionally go without food. It is known to have many benefits like weight control, spiritual strengthening and alertness. Whichever way, lets not spend on what we don’t need to.
3. Side Hustle
For those hustlers out there, one stream of income is never enough, and especially not one that comes in once a month. People who are entrepreneurs alongside their day jobs know that it is much easier to increase number of sales than it increase your salary. If you have the eye for it, find a product you can resell, and go hard at making sure it is sold out. Believe it or not, not everyone is going through the drought with you, and they want something new for the new year. Tap into that!
4. Walk it out
Your resolution probably has lose weight to it? Well experts say that walking can be very effective to any weight loss journey if done consistently. Take January off to walk whenever you can, for however far you can. SafeBoda will still be there in February. Get your cutest flat shoes and get to walking about Kampala with your cute self!
5. Sell off the personal items you no longer need
Yes, I said it. You know you have that pair of heels that you just don’t wear too much. You probably have two smartphones, and do you really need the iPhone X and a Techno Camon? Sell one on those sites like jiji.com. You probably have those stunning outfits you wore to Blankets and Wine, your New Eve sparkly outfit and everything in between. Sell them! There’s a page called The Hanger, where you can resell your most fabulous outfits and make a little money to push you through.
