10 Things You Didn’t Know About BBNaija’s Ebuka Obi-Uchendu!

Chukwuebuka Obi-Uchendu (aka Ebuka) hails from Okija in Anambra State but was born and bred in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. He is the third of four children, with an older brother, sister and a younger brother. After he completed school, Ebuka’s family moved to Abuja where he later graduated from the University of Abuja and obtained his first law degree.

Since then he’s had a rich academic and entertainment career, adding Big Brother Nigeria Season One housemate, Master of Law degree, and host of popular TV talk-show, Rubbin’ Minds, to his list of accomplishments. He’s also racked up a range of impressive awards, including being honoured by the federal government as one of the Best 100 Young Nigerians in 2013, and winning Outstanding TV Presenter of the Year (Male) at the Nigerian Broadcaster’s Merit Awards in 2013, 2014, and 2015.

Ebuka was just as thrilled as we were when, in January 2017, he was announced as the host of the new Big Brother Naija season.

While he does admit that he is relieved to not be confined to the walls of the BBN house again, Ebuka says that Little Fires Everywhere is the show he would miss watching the most if he was still in the house. Season One is now available on Showmax.

Despite being a professional in the entertainment industry, he loves to kick back and relax while watching news channels, documentaries, and good movies on TNT Africa, DStv Channel 137 and GOtv Channel 16, (Channel 116 in Ghana, and Channel316 in Uganda).

 Ebuka is also a major sports fan and enjoys watching tennis, football, athletics, and basketball – just about everything other than golf! If you are one of his 2.6 million followers on Instagram, you might already be quite familiar with this giant in entertainment, but what you might not know is that he is a bit of a romantic. He’s looking forward to the upcoming October romance film The Wedding of the Year, because, he says, “It already sounds like something that will be visually appealing. I’m ready for that!”. Speaking of romance, the 38-year-old is married to an HR manager, Cynthia Obianodo, and together they have two children – a three-year-old and a 15-month-old. Though still incredibly young, his children do spend time watching CBeebies – now available across all DStv packages, including DStv Access and Family, in ROA – and they love watching Swashbuckle, which airs on DStv Channel 306, weekends at 17:00 CAT. According to Ebuka, the show “gets them mentally challenged and also lets them know early on that good can prevail over bad, but it takes some hard work.”

Even better, his kids are also huge fans of My World Kitchen. “It already inspires my three-year-old to want to make meals for the entire family. It is brilliant to see.”
