Hyperpigmentation occurs when an area of your skin becomes darker than the surrounding skin and can be caused by excess melanin, among other things. It can affect people of all skin tones, but it is often more intense and lasts longer on people of colour. It is usually found around the eyes, chin/neck and other areas that fold, like the armpits.
Hyperpigmentation affects both the dermis (found deeper in your skin) and the epidermis (on the surface of your skin). However, epidermal hyperpigmentation is easier to treat. It may take a few months to notice improvements, whereas dermal hyperpigmentation is more challenging to treat and may become permanent in some cases.
We’ve included a few products for hyper pigmentation in dark skin below.
Vitamin C, and restorative peels are great for this because they encourage regeneration of skin cells while nourishing them to grow back in the original tone. *None of these are bleaching products
