As many women are choosing to ditch dresses and skirts, this style trend comes through as a great alternative. The idea behind it is that with a ‘power suit’ anything is possible, even standing on its own. It is bold and fun, in appearance, I assume the feeling is mutual even for the wearer.
The tricky part is usually what to do with the breasts when giving this style a spin. The options are endless; you can go braless, especially if the jacket is oversize. You can put your sexy bra on full display as the only pairing to go with your suit. Alternatively, you can tape your breasts to show off just a little bit of what’s underneath. It’s all upon you.
According to Mavo Kampala, a renowned stylist who has given this look to everyone from Spice Diana, Nina Roz and more, making it work is far from tricky. Here he shared a few tips on how to make it work.
- Cropped pants are a game changer. “Cropped trousers give a playful opportunity to show off your shoes,” he advises. “Because we’re working with a plain look, make sure your shoes are a statement on their own.”
- Dramatic wide legs are in vogue. “I’m seeing a lot of these pants. The wide legs trousers add a playful edge to the suit,” he shares.
- Go oversized. “The 80’s are huge right now. If you’re looking to wearing your suit without looking ‘naked’, get an oversize jacket with a boxy silhouette. Just throw it over. In fact, you don’t even have to button it up. Just a little tube top underneath can suffice.”
- Mix and match. “Modernise your pantsuit by wearing it as a separate. Pair your jacket with a pair of pants of a different colour or prints for that ‘unexpected elegance’”.
- Belt it up. “This is one of the coolest ways to add drama to your pantsuit. Cinch it with a fanny pack.”
