Launched in Marrakech in the year 2013 by photographer Randall Bachner, Marrakshi Life embraces comfort and craftsmanship. Taking key style elements from the traditional Moroccan wardrobe, an in-house team of local Moroccan artisans helps create original, contemporary, and wearable design pieces. Using the skill of traditional Moroccan weaving practices and a desire to take this sartorial heritage forward, Marrakshi Life uses ancient techniques to create clothing that is authentic yet with a fashion-forward urban twist.
The brand works exclusively with fabrics that are hand-woven in their atelier, never bringing in outside fabrics. With no cotton production in the country, the team sources the raw cotton material from Egypt, then dyed to the Marrakshi Life color palette locally in Morocco. From there, the dyed yarns are spun in the atelier and woven on warp/weft flatbed looms. All of the fabrics and garments are then cut and sewn in the Marrakech atelier.
The vertically-integrated brand recently released its Summer collection dubbed “High Summer” a collection that encapsulates the look and feel of summer with shapes, shades and colors to fit the season featuring hats, bags, jackets, tops, dresses and oversized long shirts plus kaftans and tunics.
The CEO and Creative Director said this about the collection:
Yearning for the longest days of the year where we’re often gifted the euphoric sensation of being reenergized by the suns warmth. For the High Summer season, we pieced together moments of joy and channeled a youthful sense of optimism to deliver a collection that is as much of a palette cleanser as it is a dedication to the best of summer.
Color is the result of light communicating with our receptors and with the abundance of sunshine that comes with summer we drew from all of the mood-enhancing hues cemented in our memory — a vibrant ‘bain de soleil’ palette
Shades reminiscent of citrus water and lavender blooms contrast the serenity of the crisp white introduced for the first time this season; as if a snapshot of a summer holiday spent in St. Tropez or Amagansett were distilled into a wardrobe
