Teen “Influencers” Are Making More Money Than You Through Sponsored Selfies

By  |

With the rise of social media comes a new kind of after school job. Teen “influencers” are making bank off of their covetable online presences. According to Co.Lab, kids with large followings on YouTube, Twitter, Vine, Instagram, and Pinterest are making thousands of dollars a day through brand endorsements. (Since Facebook makes users pay to reach target audiences, they remain the outlier in this equation.)

These social media stars can get paid per tweet or post, like Lauren Giraldo who reportedly makes $2,000 per sponsored Vine. Take a minute to absorb the fact that a 16-year-old who goes by Princess Lauren makes $2Gs for six seconds of work… Okay, moving on.

Others may be connected with companies covering multiple platforms or working under contract on campaigns. Niche is the latest startup to get in on the action. The company aims to connect brands with the social media celebrities who will sling their products in a convincing  natural way.

Of course we have a few here in Uganda who are doing the same. Just look through the news feed of the instagram facebook or twitter of  TNation presenters Sheila Gashumba and Kleith Kyatuhaire and you will agree with me. Apart from endorsing fashion brands, these young ladies encourage people to attend concerts. If she posts about you, people will no doubt show up or buy your product.
