Sylvia Owori’s Forever Love Fashion Show, One Of The Most Unforgettable Fashion Moments In Kampala

By  |

Before the ASFAs, the PAFAs and all the red carpet events we enjoy so much now, only one name ruled Kampala’s fashion scene. Sylvia Owori’s name was literally written all over Kampala’s social events. Her events, which included a slew of fashion shows and the Miss Uganda pageant search were some of the most sought-after fashion events on Kampala’s social scene. One event, however, stands out for me, not because it was one of her last big events, but because it’s also one of her most memorable.

‘Inspired by fashion from the ’20s through to the ’60s’, the fashion show was the grand unveiling of her collection with the same and was held at Lugogo Showgrounds. The collection featured chiffon maxis, frilly dresses and bright summer beachwear. The clothes were accessorized by statement necklaces, cinched belts and sequins on the necklines as inspired by fashion from the ‘50s and ‘60s.

As compared to other fashion events that were being held at the time (2012), this fashion show was a breath of fresh air as it came with the glitz and glamour Owori’s brand had been known for years; only professional models walked the runway (after undergoing weeks of training) and the clothes were memorable. By the way, Aamito Lagum walked the runway that evening.

For #ThrowBackThursday we look back at this event and silently hope Sylvia Owori makes a comeback.
