Flash talks Fashion Reunion party this Thursday and nudity

By  |

Flash Nakafeero is the proprietor of Flash Models Uganda. Flash Models Uganda will be holding the third annual Fashion Reunion party this Thursday at Club Silk. She talked to us about the event, what to expect and the trends she thinks we need to trash this season.

How has it been organizing this event for 3 consecutive years?

It’s been rough. Some times I put more than I rip but it has all been fun and exciting. The show must go on is my motto.

What is the hardest thing about organizing a fashion event?

The necessities for a mind blowing event are very costly. Since our budgets are usually small, we work with the available resources to put up a great event. Much as you always want to do more, the budget limits you to what you can afford. However my events are always clean cut glamor. No lacklustre work.

What are you doing different this year?

This year we are bringing on board new, well trained and serious faces never seen before on Ugandan runway to put up  a well choreographed show. Not forgetting the designers with mind blowing concepts. One of the designers Pamela Musimenta will be bringing a jungle experience to the show. Don’t miss out on this and more.

I wouldn’t want to miss that jungle experience. Is this your idea or the designer’s?

It’s the designer’s idea but we always brainstorm and help each other put on a great show.

Last year you had Doreen Kabareebe’s unexpected appearance on the runway. Do you have any shockers this year?

Absolutely! There’s always something up our sleeves every time we organize this event. I won’t reveal it here though. I want everyone to come and be party to this. I can’t even give clues.

Sure we can’t miss this for anything. Last you unveiled your sweater collection, are you showing any of your designs come this Thursday?

Yes last year I launched my sweater line. This year with the help of a good friend of mine Anthony, I will be showcasing T-shirt art.

How do you manage to still be relevant each year? I see you have new things every time?

I read a lot and I follow fashion trends worldwide. But more to it is I always love to challenge myself and aim where others think it’s impossible. Plus I always strive hard to look different from anyone else in this industry.

That said, would you be kind to tell us some of the fashion trends that you feel people should be following now?

For the ladies get yourself a pair of pointy toe pumps. These pointy toes pumps are trending for the ladies and body hugging dress preferably with a long slit either in front or behind the dress. Just an example of what Kim and Khloe wore as they headed to an E! event recently.

I’m a big fan of those pumps by the way. I  didn’t even know what they were called.

Yes they are trending all over. Christian Louboutin and Jimmy Choo have the best. I’m glad I’ve taught you something.

Pointy toe pumps are trendy right now. Sheer nudity is a turn off.

What trend do you feel ladies should trash?

Dresses such as what Rihanna wore to the CFDA recently.  Sheer nudity should be trashed. Unfortunately many Ugandan women are picking it up.

What’s your take on nudity in fashion?

It’s all cool as long as the key private parts are hidden. I like when designers make clothes with nude fabric that looks just like body of the person wearing them to confuse onlookers. For those lets go ahead but for shear nudity like Rihanna’s, It’s a No for me.

I hope we won’t be seeing any on your runway on Thursday.

Well that was my personal view. My fellow designers showcasing on Thursday may have a different view so expect anything.

I should let you finish your preps for the show. Let’s meet at Club Silk on Thursday.

I call upon all fashion lovers and enthusiasts to come and represent on Thursday. The date is 12th June, 2014 at Club Silk. Tickets go for Shs 20,000. We kick off at 7pm. Don’t miss!
