Cleopatra Koheirwe on beauty, dreadlocks and co – presenters

By  |

Cleopatra Koheirwe is a radio show host (97 FM Radiocity), TV personality, actress (CHANGES)  and performer. Not many 31 year old women can manage juggling all this and still look amazing. She’s a real power house. She talked to us about how she manages to always have her skin glowing. She also tells us the hurdles of being a radio show host.
You always look amazing. How do you manage to maintain such amazing skin?

Thank you. I stick to natural products like Baby oil and vaseline. The other lotion I love to use is Cocoa Butter Palmers.

What beauty tips do you give  women who wish to have great skin like yours?

Haha! Great skin like mine?! Hmm. Well, I guess they should not change products a lot and they should avoid bleaching creams because I believe these only damage the skin and make someone look weird. Stay as natural as possible. If one uses make up, do not over do it. Keep it moderate and make sure to clean or wash it off before sleeping. Also see a skin dermatologist so that you know what your skin type is and what you should use.

If you choose to use make up, do not over do it. Keep it moderate.

What is your take on skin lightening? Have you tried it before?

I am against it and no I have not tried it before. I am already light skinned. Why would I do skin lightening? I would look terrible. Haha.

So tell us the secret behind your locks? Is it your signature hair do?

There is no secret behind my dreadlocks. I love natural hair and had gotten tired of hair weaves and braiding so I opted for something more natural, unique and long lasting- dreadlocks. By the time I started growing locks, very few people had them in Uganda. Now, it is a “IT style” and that is nice. You could say it’s my “signature hair-do” but I will change it one day. Been having thoughts to cut my dreadlocks off but friends and family discourage me. Haha.

What did you carry in your handbag today?

The usual really: Money, iPod,  Perfume, Tender soft tissue wipes, lip balm, pen, flash disk and driving permit.

Tell us about your personal style. How would you describe your personal style?

My style is in between casual and chic. I dress according to what the occasion is, and how I feel. My comfort comes first, always. 😉

Which fashion trends do you feel men should trash?

Skinny jeans do not look good on every male so I think one should think hard before wearing them. Not every trend has to be worn by everyone. But to be honest, if a man knows how to style himself, he will pull off any look. It’s all about being creative and keeping it simple but cool.

What is the hardest thing about doing radio?

Having relevant content and knowing how to deliver it to the listeners is one thing I find some radio hosts struggle with. It is always important to do show prep and know how you are going to run the show. The start can be tough but with time, you get used to it and sound more comfortable and relatable. I like radio because it’s all about the voice and not what you look like or are dressed in.

Hakeem and  Dave Dash. Who of these two would make it as your co presenter if you got a job in a foreign country?
Hakeem is a very good mature presenter. I enjoyed working with him at Capital Radio where I first began my radio work and he taught me a few things that have helped me become a better radio host. Co-hosting “The Jam” with him at Radiocity was awesome. We even won a Bronze award at the RTV Academy Awards 2012 (Radio & Television Awards) for Best Late Afternoon show. We made a great team.
I co -host the U-request show with Dave Dash now every Mon-Fri from 7pm to 10pm. It’s more light hearted and Dave is also fun, an entertainment freak like me, knows what’s happening locally & internationally in showbiz, and he knows how to be controversial in topics like Hakeem which blends well with me too. Choosing between the two would be hard because they are both good in their own right. They make good radio partners and they have been my friends for a long time.
